Unidentified attackers shot dead a retired sergeant inspector of Kashimpur Central Jail at a market in front of the jail’s entrance.

The victim is identified as Rustam Ali, who was on leave preparatory to retirement.

Witnesses said Rustam was at a medicine shop at a market in front of the heavily guarded jail.

At one stage, unknown attackers went fire on at around 11:45am.

He was immediately taken to Gazipur General Hospital where doctors declared him dead, said deputy jailor Mohammad Mamun.

One of Rustam’s close colleague suspected that attack might be a sequel to land related dispute.
