NaikhyanchariA Buddhist monk of was found dead with his throat slit with sharp weapon at a small pagoda near Chak para at Baishari of Naikhyangchari in Bandarban on Saturday.
The monk is identified as Maung Sai U Chak, 70. He used to stay at a small pagoda outside the village.
Maung’s daughter-in-law found him dead when she went there to serve him food early in the morning.
Baishari village police in-charge Aung Saing Chak said the body of the monk was found lying on his bed.
‘We suspect he was killed sometimes yesterday. The body was throat-slit,’ he said.
Acting officer-in-charge of Naikhyangchari police, Kazi Ahsan, said police had rushed the spot but it could not be immediately confirmed who had killed the monk.
