The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Thursday directed the private university authorities to form monitoring cells for taking measures to create awareness against terrorism, extremism and militancy.

The universities have been asked to send a copy of office order (name and designation of members) regarding the formation of the monitoring cells, said a UGC media release.

The universities have also been asked to send the monthly reports over the activities taken by the cells to the Education Ministry and the UGC.

The UGC has taken the measure in the wake of recent militant attacks in the country and involvement of some private university students in the militant acts.
