Jamaat-e-Islami has called a dawn-to-dusk hartal for tomorrow (Wednesday) as the Supreme Court today dismissed the petition of war criminal Mir Quasem Ali seeking review of its judgement that had upheld his death penalty.

The hartal will be observed in a “peaceful manner” from 6:00am tomorrow, said a statement published on the party website immediately after the verdict this morning.

Mir Quasem, a central executive committee member of the party, is the victim of the government’s “conspiracy,” the statement said adding that their leader has been “deprived of justice.”Ambulance, fire-service and hospital vehicles, press and other emergency services will be out of the purview of the hartal, according to the website statement issued by Jamaat’s acting secretary general Shafiqur Rahman. An infamous Al-Badr leader of Chittagong and later the moneyman of Jamaat, Mir Quasem’s fate remains tied to the noose for wartime offence with his review plea against death dismissed.
