At least 14 people including a woman and a child died and 13 others were missing as a launch carrying around 60 people on board capsized in Shandhya river in Banaripara upazila of Barisal today, police said.

One of the deceased was identified as Kohinur Begum, 60, while the identities of others could not be known immediately, reports our local correspondent from the spot.

The bodies of the victims were recovered by the fire fighters this afternoon while the rescue operation is underway for the missing people, SM Akhteruzzaman, superintendant of police in the district, said.

ML Oishi with around 60 people on board, capsized at Dasherhaat point while its passengers started to get down after it anchored there around 12:15pm, said Ziaul Hasan, officer-in-charge of Banaripara Police Station.
