New recruitment and selection rules will be applied for public universities in Bangladesh soon.

Public universities will have to administer written examinations along with viva voce on appointment of teachers, according to a government directive. It also says that police verification must be done before appointment of teachers and staff.

The education ministry’s new instruction, given to the University Grants Commission (UGC), states that universities must complete background checks by police before appointing varsity teachers and the staff.

The directive, sent to the UGC secretary, added that only viva voce for appointing staff creates room for irregularity, according to a news agency.
